Congratulations to Dr. Nica D. Togana of the College of Criminal Justice Education for securing external research funding from SHAPE-SEA, hosted by the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, Thailand.
Her research, “Beyond Tokenism: Exploring Gender Dynamics, Organizational Culture, and Institutional Support in the Philippine National Police,” was selected through a competitive review under the SHAPE-SEA Commissioned Thematic Research 2026. The project will be implemented from July 2026 to April 2027.
This achievement advances UC’s commitment to research excellence, international engagement, and impactful research on human rights and gender equality.
This research advances SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by examining gender dynamics and institutional support, while contributing to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through its focus on building more inclusive and equitable law-enforcement institutions. It also supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through its efforts to address institutional inequalities and foster international research collaboration.
