Dr. Jevilyn P. Madalang of the University of the Cordilleras–College of Criminal Justice Education (UC-CCJE) participated in the International Conference on Feminism, Gender and Law held on September 16–20, 2026, at the University of Economics and Law in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. During the conference, Dr. Madalang presented her research paper entitled “A Feminist Lens of Private Harm,” contributing to international academic discussions on feminism, gender, law, and victimization. The activity also included a workshop on academic publishing, where journal editors shared strategies for framing locally grounded research for broader international audiences.

The conference emphasized the importance of connecting legal frameworks with their actual implementation and the lived experiences of individuals affected by gendered victimization. Discussions highlighted the role of communication in policy development and the need to examine how laws are understood, implemented, and experienced by the people they are intended to protect. Supported by the Rights to Life Project, Dr. Madalang’s participation provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with international scholars and strengthen research and advocacy efforts concerning legal literacy and private harm.

This activity aligns with SDG 5 (Gender Equality), particularly Target 5.1, which seeks to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls, and Target 5.2, which aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in public and private spheres. It also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), particularly Target 16.3, which promotes the rule of law and equal access to justice for all. Through research presentation and international academic dialogue on gender, law, victimization, and private harm, the activity contributes to discussions that can inform legal awareness, gender-responsive advocacy, and the effective implementation of laws protecting individuals from harm.
