By: Intern Jan Erick Sabado (SANGHAYA-MAHARLIKA)

On February 1, 2026, Baguio City celebrated its Panagbenga Festival Grand Opening. To ensure the event was safe and orderly, Criminology Interns from the University of the Cordilleras (UC-CCJE) rendered duty as barricade personnel. These interns, belonging to Class SANGHAYA-MAHARLIKA, were assigned to specific areas to help with crowd control and public safety. They worked hard to keep spectators out of restricted areas and maintained order along the parade routes so activities could flow smoothly.

This duty was done in close coordination with the Baguio City Police Office Station 7 and other law enforcement agencies. The interns showed great discipline and professionalism while gaining practical experience in public safety.

This activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with essential hands-on training for their criminology practicum. It also promotes SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by helping to create a safe and inclusive environment for a major public event. Finally, it contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through effective inter-agency cooperation to maintain public order.
