Academic Excellence Pushes Boundaries in Forensic Research

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) Research Forum 2024, held at the UC Theatre on July 16th, 2024, showcased the exceptional achievements of third-year Forensic Science students. These students were applauded for their innovative research and dedication, which has reportedly set a new benchmark in the field of forensic science.

The achievements were celebrated as a testament to the students’ meticulous study and passion for discovery. Their work not only highlighted their academic excellence but also contributed valuable insights that are described as pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge.

A significant highlight of the forum was the presentation by two teams who earned high honors. Securing third place was titled “IDENTIFYE: A Facial Recognition Technology Empowering Law Enforcement with an Advanced Criminal Identification System”. The researchers responsible for this award-winning work were China Luna and Abi Requintina. They worked alongside their insightful adviser, Ms. Fiona Diosalyn Laguio.

Additionally, acknowledgment was given to the team that achieved Top 10 Finalist status. Their research focused on “Sex Determination: Determining the Range of Barr Bodies in Human Dental Pulp”. The students involved in this study were Hans Moreno, Maffy Manganip, Caster Bustria, Norman Alcayde, Desiree Mangilinan, and Yanka Fuertes. Their adviser was Dr. Nica Togana.

UC-CCJE expresses immense pride in these accomplishments and acknowledges the positive influence the students, as well as their advisers, are bringing to the field. It emphasizes research freedom in both junior and senior academics, contributing to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
