Championing Human Rights Through Creative Expression: Integrating Advocacy into Academia

The commitment of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) to fostering future justice advocates was highlighted as second-year Forensic Science students, Ms. Bea Cassandra Gedaria and Ms. Jared Angelica Remanes, excelled in the 2024 Human Rights Spoken Word Poetry Competition . Hosted by the Human Rights Institute CHR, the participation of these students exemplifies the university’s active engagement with national human rights bodies , contributing directly to policy- and lawmakers outreach and education.

Gedaria secured a consolation award, while Remanes achieved a finalist position. Their success demonstrates that Forensic Science students are committed to human rights and possess the talent and dedication required to engage in critical public discourse. This proactive engagement aligns with UC’s broader institutional commitment to enhancing public service and participating in governance initiatives.
