In celebration of the 128th Independence Day of the Philippines, the Freedom, Rights, and Responsibility Program was held on June 12, 2026, with the theme “Remembering Heroes, Rebuilding Trust: A Call Against Legal Cynicism.”
The program featured an insightful discussion by Atty. Cheryl L. Daytec-Yañgot, Regional Director, Department of Migrant Workers – CAR, explored the importance of rebuilding public trust in legal and government institutions. Drawing from her experience in public service, she emphasized that legal cynicism—the belief that laws and institutions are ineffective, unfair, or untrustworthy—can undermine civic engagement and weaken the pursuit of justice.

Atty. Daytec-Yañgot also emphasized the role of citizens in upholding the rule of law and promoting ethical leadership. She encouraged participants to embody responsible citizenship and contribute to strengthening trust in institutions, reminding them that the freedoms won by our heroes carry a shared responsibility to uphold justice and serve the community with integrity.

The Freedom, Rights, and Responsibility Program supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting respect for the rule of law, responsible citizenship, and public trust in legal and government institutions. It also contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by raising awareness of human rights, civic duties, and ethical leadership. Furthermore, the program aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the cooperation of various organizations and institutions in advancing human rights education, civic engagement, and community development.
