On June 3, 2023, the Criminology interns engaged in an essential training session on basic self-defense at the multi-purpose gym in Camp Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad. This event facilitated by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 primarily aimed to enhance the interns’ confidence and self-efficacy in addressing potential threats effectively.
The training commenced with an informative lecture on self-defense principles, centered on the Filipino martial art of arnis. Participants were introduced to the art’s rich history and its emphasis on agility, precision, and quick reflexes. Following the lecture, the facilitators demonstrated a variety of offensive and defensive techniques, highlighting the practical application of arnis in self-defense scenarios.
Interns then had the chance to apply the skills they had learned through hands-on exercises, allowing them to practice both offensive and defensive strategies. This interactive component not only reinforced their capabilities but also boosted their confidence in their ability to safeguard themselves.
In alignment with UN SDG 4, this training equips interns with essential skills that extend beyond the classroom, fostering personal safety and empowerment for their future careers. Furthermore, this initiative supports Goal 16, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies by preparing future law enforcement professionals with critical self-defense competencies. Such training ensures they are equipped to protect themselves and the community amidst potential challenges they may encounter in their roles.
This basic self-defense training not only emphasizes personal safety but also cultivates a sense of responsibility among budding criminologists, preparing them to navigate their future roles with assurance and competence.
