By: UC Research Services Office

The University of the Cordilleras (UC), through its Project G4RS Team, spearheaded a Forum on Vehicular and Traffic Accident Analysis on August 27, 2025 at the Cañao Hall. The event gathered key stakeholders and decision-makers to collectively address the growing challenges of road safety and traffic management in the city.

Among the participants were representatives from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), the Department of Transportation–Land Transportation Office (DOTr-LTO), the City Engineering Office, and various transport groups in Baguio City.

The forum highlighted the current state of vehicular accidents and traffic flow in Baguio, examining contributory factors and identifying areas for intervention. Stakeholders engaged in data-driven discussions, sharing insights on enforcement, engineering, education, and community cooperation as vital components in reducing road mishaps and ensuring commuter safety.

Project G4RS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing road safety through research-driven insights and evidence-based recommendations. Through this collaborative dialogue, stakeholders aim to reinforce existing initiatives and develop long-term, sustainable strategies toward a safer, more efficient, and commuter-friendly transportation system for Baguio City.

This undertaking reflects UC’s strong commitment to working hand in hand with the community in addressing real urban challenges and building a safer, better city for all.

The activity aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), particularly Target 16.3, which promotes the rule of law and equal access to justice, through its contribution to evidence-based decision-making and cooperation with local government agencies on road safety and traffic management. It specifically supports Indicator 16.3.1 (local level), provided UC’s research findings and recommendations constituted expert advice to local government. Furthermore, it may support SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Target 11.2, which promotes safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems, through its focus on improving road safety and commuter protection.
