UC Strengthens Academic Freedom and Research Innovation through Quality Research Orientation and Proposal Development

By: UC Research Services Office

In line with the DOST Call for Proposals 2025, the University of the Cordilleras conducted an Orientation on Quality Research Circle and Problem Conceptualization on January 21, 2025, at the UC Cañao Hall. Organized and facilitated by the Research Services Office (RSO) and the Innovation and Technology Transfer Office (InTTO), the activity brought together faculty members from various colleges to strengthen research capabilities and encourage the development of quality, relevant, and innovative research initiatives.

The orientation aimed to familiarize faculty members and employees with DOST funding opportunities and collaborative research projects while helping them align their proposed studies with national research priorities and the university’s research agenda. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants explored interdisciplinary approaches to research, including problem identification, objective-setting, and the formulation of project concept proposals.

The initiative reflects the University’s commitment to fostering a research environment that values academic freedom, scholarly inquiry, and the responsible pursuit of knowledge. By equipping faculty members with the skills and resources to conceptualize and develop research projects, the activity supports their capacity to explore relevant research questions and contribute evidence-based insights to academic and societal concerns, consistent with the principles of academic freedom in teaching and research.

This undertaking aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), particularly Indicator 16.2.6 on academic freedom policy, insofar as it supports an institutional environment conducive to independent scholarly inquiry and research development. It also contributes to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Target 9.5, by strengthening research and innovation capabilities, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), Target 17.17, through the promotion of collaborative research opportunities.
