On June 22, 2023, the Forensic Science Practicum students of the University of the Cordilleras engaged in a vital community service initiative by organizing a blood donation drive in partnership with Baguio General Hospital (BGH). This event highlighted the students’ dedication to public health and community involvement while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 17, which focus on promoting good health and fostering strong partnerships.
The blood donation drive commenced with thorough screenings and tests for potential donors, designed to ensure a safe and effective donation process for all involved. Attendees participated in an informative orientation session led by BGH staff, who emphasized the significance of blood donation, its impact on patient care, and the guidelines for safe practices. A question-and-answer segment facilitated active engagement among students, enriching their understanding of the critical role that regular blood donation plays in sustaining healthcare resources and saving lives.
As the students made their contributions, they recognized the profound impact that small actions can have on individuals in need. The blood donated will support patients undergoing surgeries, recovering from accidents, or managing serious health conditions. This community service initiative not only reinforced the university’s commitment to health and wellness but also strengthens its collaboration with the community.
