By: Criminology Practicum Interns

The University of the Cordilleras – College of Criminal Justice Education (UC-CCJE) proudly recognizes the successful participation of its Criminology Practicum 1 and Forensic Science interns in the Basic Youth Leadership Training (BYLT) conducted by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 (RMFB 15), Philippine National Police, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Baguio. Held on May 6–7, 2026, at the South Sanitary Camp Covered Court, the two-day training provided participants with valuable knowledge and practical skills essential for future professionals in law enforcement and forensic science.

The training commenced with discussions on the fundamental qualities of effective leadership, emphasizing integrity, discipline, accountability, and service. Participants also underwent sessions on conflict management, where they learned to identify various types of conflict and apply appropriate strategies for peaceful and professional resolution. These activities reinforced the importance of ethical leadership and responsible decision-making in public service.

Another key component of the program introduced the interns to the history, mission, and operational functions of RMFB 15, fostering a deeper appreciation of the unit’s role in maintaining peace, public safety, and security. The training also featured an awareness session on the recruitment strategies employed by the CPP-NPA-NDF, highlighting the importance of vigilance, critical thinking, and informed decision-making in countering misinformation and protecting vulnerable sectors.

The second day of the training focused on media and information literacy, equipping participants with practical knowledge on identifying misinformation and disinformation, applying fact-checking techniques, and responsibly evaluating information. Career guidance sessions further provided valuable insights into professional development and the competencies expected of future public safety practitioners.

Through this enriching experience, the interns strengthened not only their leadership and communication skills but also their ethical awareness, critical thinking, and commitment to truth and integrity—qualities that are indispensable in the fields of criminology and forensic science.

The University of the Cordilleras – College of Criminal Justice Education extends its sincere appreciation to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Baguio for their continued partnership and unwavering support in developing competent, ethical, and service-oriented future criminal justice professionals.

This activity aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with experiential learning in leadership, conflict management, media and information literacy, and ethical decision-making that complement their academic training. It also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting integrity, civic responsibility, critical thinking, and awareness of public safety and security issues, while preparing future criminology and forensic science professionals to contribute to effective, accountable, and resilient institutions through informed and ethical public service.
