By: Joy Nicole C. Canutab

On May 6, 2023, the Criminology interns assembled at Camp Bado Dangwa in La Trinidad, Benguet for an enlightening session on Civil Disturbance Management organized by the RMFB Project Kalinga Team. The session aimed to furnish the students with practical knowledge and law enforcement skills.

The day commenced with a concise lecture on Civil Disturbance Management, delving into the theoretical underpinnings and the significance of adept crowd control and conflict resolution. Subsequently, a video demonstration depicted real-life scenarios where police officers effectively managed civil disturbances. This visual aid provided the interns with a comprehensive understanding of the tactics and strategies employed by law enforcement during crucial situations. Following the instructional segment, the interns engaged in hands-on practice, simulating various scenarios under the guidance of seasoned officers. This practical training not only augmented their confidence but also underscored the importance of teamwork and communication in managing civil unrest.

This activity exemplifies the essence of Quality Education by bridging the chasm between academic learning and real-world application. Such experiential learning is imperative in preparing future leaders who are well-equipped to handle the complexities of civil disturbance. Furthermore, it closely aligns with Goal 16, striving to cultivate well-trained future law enforcers who can contribute to a more cohesive society, mitigating the likelihood of violence and fostering trust between law enforcement and the public. The collaboration between the Philippine National Police and the academic community exemplifies Goal 17, emphasizing the necessity for partnerships to enhance knowledge and facilitate empirical learning. As these interns transition into their professional roles, they will be better prepared to make positive contributions to their communities, embodying the principles of justice, safety, and unity.
