On March 11, 2026, Dr. Jevilyn Madalang from the University of the Cordilleras reached a major goal in the fight for safety and justice. She presented her vital research at a large joint meeting in Baguio City that brought together groups dedicated to protecting children and stopping violence against women. Around thirty-five (35) participants were present during the engagement.

Dr. Madalang’s study focuses on why some rape victims in Baguio City stop using the legal system. By looking at these factors, her research provides the evidence-based insights needed to help survivors get the justice they deserve. This work will surely benefit those victims of sexual assault by identifying the barriers they face and helping the government create better support systems.

This accomplishment is a powerful step toward meeting UN SDG 5 (Gender Equality) which aims to end all forms of violence against women and girls everywhere. Likewise, it achieves SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by making sure that the legal system is fair and that justice is easy to reach for every person who has been harmed.

As a result of this research, regional committees have committed to working together to improve their policies and protect the welfare of women and children. They are even looking into hiring more social workers and mental health experts to help survivors. Dr. Madalang’s hard work gives these leaders the information they need to strengthen the law and create a safer environment where everyone’s rights are protected.
