UC-PAF ROTC Cadets Demonstrate Discipline and Grit in Grandstand Drill Evaluation

By: Eloisa Luis

On March 30, 2025, the cadets of the University of the Cordilleras–Philippine Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit (UC-PAF ROTCU) showcased their discipline, coordination, and resilience during a drill evaluation at the Melvin Jones Grandstand. The event tested their precision and teamwork, reinforcing the values of discipline and unity that lie at the heart of their training.

As the voice of command echoed across the grandstand, the cadets marched in unison, their synchronized footsteps shaking the ground with a determination that was palpable. Despite the sweltering heat, they continued with unwavering focus, embodying the grit and perseverance that future leaders require. The evaluation challenged them physically, mentally, and emotionally, but their ability to push beyond discomfort highlighted the strength of camaraderie and purpose within their ranks.

This training served not only as a test of marching skills but also as a lesson in readiness and character-building. Each cadet carried the weight of discipline, integrity, and responsibility, values that extend beyond the parade ground and into their daily lives. As Sgt. Alvin Poclet, PAF (Res.), emphasized, “Graduating from ROTC training does not mean ending the knowledge imparted. The knowledge and values instilled will remain an enduring legacy, a testament to the transformative power of discipline and service.”

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the drill evaluation reflected the unit’s commitment to holistic development. The program advanced Quality Education (SDG 4) by providing cadets with life-long lessons in discipline, leadership, and teamwork. It also reinforced Gender Equality (SDG 5) by ensuring equal opportunities for all cadets, regardless of gender, to excel in leadership and performance. Moreover, the training supported Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) by shaping future defenders of integrity, discipline, and civic responsibility.

This drill evaluation reminded cadets that being part of the UC-PAF ROTCU is more than mastering formations. It is a journey of self-discovery, where discipline, coordination, camaraderie, and values shape their identity. For many, the training revealed inner strengths they never knew they had, leaving them not only better prepared as cadets but also as individuals ready to serve their communities and contribute to a just and disciplined society.
