The University of the Cordilleras–College of Criminal Justice Education College Student Council (UC CCJE-CSC), in partnership with the Rights2Life office, spearheaded the “Likha’t Sanggalang Community Outreach Program” on November 15, 2024, at Tocmo Integrated School, Loacan, Itogon, Benguet. The initiative aimed to promote human rights awareness, empower the youth, and equip students with practical self-defense skills.
The outreach program engaged learners across different age groups. Kindergarten pupils enjoyed interactive activities such as arts, crafts, and storytelling, which introduced them early to the values of self-expression, creativity, and empowerment. Meanwhile, high school students participated in a lecture and demonstration on basic self-defense techniques, learning practical punch and block moves designed to help them respond to situations of unlawful aggression. The covered court resonated with their excitement as they practiced, reflecting their eagerness to embrace skills that strengthen personal safety and community resilience.
According to the organizers, the initiative emphasized that human rights advocacy and youth empowerment must begin with awareness and active participation at the grassroots level. The program also underscored the role of education in shaping responsible citizens who value justice, peace, and community solidarity.

The event showcased UC CCJE’s continuing commitment to developing future law enforcers and leaders who embody compassion, discipline, and service. By fostering partnerships with institutions such as Rights2Life, the college affirms its dedication to building inclusive communities that safeguard the rights and welfare of all.
This effort directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by promoting awareness of rights and equipping youth with protective skills, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration with partner organizations to extend the program’s reach.
As challenges in society persist, UC CCJE remains steadfast in its mission to uphold peace and justice by preparing its students to serve not only as protectors of the law but also as advocates of human dignity and active agents of positive change.
