Strengthening Internal Governance through Student Initiative

The pursuit of robust internal self-governance at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) is not limited to management and faculty, but also extends to its primary student body. The University Student Council (USC) convened a parliamentary session on March 23, 2024, at the UC Auditorium with the specific goal of amending the USC’s 2014 charter. This crucial move, occurring a decade after the charter’s inception, clearly demonstrates the students’ commitment to effective self-governance by actively updating and refining their foundational documents.

By undertaking this comprehensive review and amendment process, the USC provides vigorous governance input to the university contributing to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), showcasing internal mechanisms for democratic decision-making. This action aligns with the university’s institutional culture, which values formalized collaborative governance and democratic participation.

By updating its 2014 charter, the USC ensures that its internal processes remain responsive and effective, contributing to the overall institutional resilience and democratic maturity of the University of the Cordilleras.
