Empowering Voices for the Future of the Cordillera: CCJE Students Excel at Regional Autonomy Summit

The University of the Cordilleras hosted the Cordillera Regional Autonomy Summit and Youth Fora on December 4, 2023, at the UC Theatre, with the theme “Garnering People’s Support for Regional Autonomy Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Regional Development.” Spearheaded by the Cordillera Regional Development Council in collaboration with CHED CAR, the summit brought together local leaders, educators, and students to advocate for social and economic transformation within the Cordillera region.

This summit showcased a diverse array of activities, including an oratorical showcase and a spoken poetry competition, offering students a platform to express their insights and aspirations for the future of the Cordillera. Notably, two students from the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) garnered accolades for their exceptional contributions. Mr. Robert John Chinanglas was crowned Champion in the Oration category, delivering a compelling speech that echoed the theme of regional autonomy and inclusive development. Meanwhile, Ms. Debbie Joyce Dallog triumphed in the Spoken Poetry category, enchanting the audience with her reflections on unity, resilience, and regional pride.

This event not only celebrated the remarkable talent of students but also enhanced awareness and advocacy for the Cordillera’s pursuit of regional autonomy. Through strategies encompassing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC), Alliance Building, and Capability Building, the summit highlighted the vital role of local governance and regional identity in fostering sustainable development. This initiative exemplifies the commitment to empowering the youth with the knowledge and opportunities necessary to actively shape a prosperous and resilient Cordillera.
