On November 20, 2023, the University of the Cordilleras – College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) hosted a human rights research meeting, uniting College Student Council officers and Criminology Practicum students. This initiative, led by the Rights2Life office under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Ariel Nimo B. Pumecha, Dr. Robino D. Cawi, Mrs. Cherry Ann A. Cabarrubias, Mrs. Nica D. Togana, Mr. Scyld C. Segundo, and Mr. Jefferson Fianitog, served as a vital platform for instilling and enhancing the principles of human rights, justice, and community cohesion.

The session involved in-depth discussions emphasizing the importance of human rights in cultivating ethical and accountable future law enforcement professionals. Facilitators from the Rights2Life office provided insightful perspectives on the practical applications of human rights principles, motivating students to embody these values in their forthcoming careers and to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 16, which champions inclusive, just, and peaceful societies.

The Human Rights Research Meeting represented a significant opportunity for CCJE students to acquire practical knowledge and foster a heightened sense of community and shared responsibility. By weaving human rights concepts into student-led initiatives organized by Criminology Practicum students and College Student Council officers, CCJE reaffirms its dedication to nurturing informed and compassionate professionals who will make meaningful contributions to society. This event not only enhanced the participants’ comprehension of human rights but also reinforced their commitment to justice and peace, aligning with the college’s mission to develop ethically-minded law enforcement officers.
