On June 10, 2023, the Criminology interns participated in a simulation exercise regarding protest management at the PROCOR Grandstand, Camp Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad. This event, led by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion’s Project Kalinga Team, was built upon the Civil Disturbance Management Lecture and Drills conducted on May 7, 2023, aimed to immerse students in realistic scenarios of civil unrest.
The session commenced with a brief recap of previously covered topics, reinforcing essential principles of civil disturbance management. Following the recap, the interns engaged in practice exercises to hone their skills further.
Central to the activity was the simulation of various protest scenarios, which allowed interns to experience the complexities of managing civil unrest firsthand. Through role-playing and practical demonstrations, students gained insights into effective crowd control techniques, negotiation strategies, and conflict de-escalation methods. This immersive experience not only strengthened their confidence but also underscored the significance of professionalism and empathy within law enforcement.
The emphasis on protest management aligns with Goal 16, which seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies. Training in civil disturbance management equips future law enforcement professionals with the necessary skills to uphold order while respecting citizens’ rights to assemble and express their views. Activities highlighting the partnerships between industry partners and academic institutions are essential in cultivating a more resilient and harmonious society.
