On May 13, 2023, the dedicated Criminology interns engaged in an immersive training session focused on Gun Safety and the Assembly and Disassembly of Long Arms. This training took place at Camp Bado Dangwa in La Trinidad, Benguet, where the interns were guided by the esteemed Regional Mobile Force Battalion Team Project Kalinga.
The training day commenced with an enlightening lecture on the various formations and ceremonial elements pertinent to the Philippine National Police (PNP). This foundational knowledge is pivotal in instilling discipline and fostering an understanding of the traditions that underpin law enforcement. Subsequently, a thorough review of the four cardinal rules of gun safety underscored the significance of responsible firearm handling as a fundamental skill, putting emphasis that responsible firearm handling not only ensures personal safety but also cultivates community trust in law enforcement practices.
Following the lecture, the interns delved into the practical aspect of the session, where they were expertly guided through the process of assembling and disassembling both long and short firearms. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply the principles of gun safety in a practical setting. The session culminated in a spirited competition to test the acquired skills, adding an element of enjoyment to the invaluable learning experience.
This training session adeptly embodies the principles of Quality Education by seamlessly blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on application. Through engaging with lectures and practical exercises, the interns gained a profound understanding of firearms and the imperative nature of their safe handling. Moreover, the emphasis on training in gun safety and proper firearm handling aligns with Goal 16, as it underscores the pivotal role of trust between law enforcement and the public. Well-trained officers are better equipped to uphold justice and maintain peace, thereby strengthening the fabric of our society.
